This summer, we hope to take a group of students deeper in their walk with God by first identifying the students in our community that have an open heart towards Jesus. Over the spring and summer we will intentionally invest in them and in the fall, send them back as unlikely missionaries to their school campuses.

The challenge they face is great. The peer community of our youth is built on a lifestyle of self-centeredness and self-validation. We want to equip them with the confidence to stand firm in Christ’s love, a better hope than anything the world can offer.

As we identify these 12 to 16 students over the course of the next month, we are praying that Jesus will go before us by preparing their hearts to take a radical step in their relationship with Him.There are two ways we hope to build into the lives of students this summer: intentional discipleship and serving.

Intentional discipleship is taking them out of their normal environment and creating a space where real conversation and healthy relationships centered on the Gospel can happen.

Then, as students have a deeper understanding of Christ’s love, through serving they will be challenged to put others needs above their own and will experience the joy and freedom of sacrificing for someone else.

“They will rebuild the ancient ruins, repairing cities destroyed long ago. They will revive them, though they have been deserted for many generations.”
- Isaiah 61:4.

In Their Community
Our greatest mission field is right next door! We hope our students can be a positive influence in each of their communities by praying, meeting needs, and being positive role models for the people around them.

In Johnson City
Revitalization is happening in our city, and we want to be a part of it! In the same way downtown buildings and businesses are beingrenewed, we hope to see our youth and the community surrounding downtown made new. As we partner with downtown businesses and organizations, we want our youth to be part of Johnson City’s transformation.

In Philadelphia
Last year we partnered with two ministries in Philadelphia and that trip was one of the most fruitful adventures we have ever taken. This year, we will continue those partnerships, servingin the inner-city and suburbs. Both are unfamiliar environments where our youth are called to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of broken people.

JOIN US THIS SUMMER!

This summer is a God-sized dream and we cannot make it happen on our own. We are asking that you come alongside us this summer as we think small and dream big! Below are four ways that you can step in and help make an impact on our youth this summer.

1. GIVE

On top of our existing support, we need an additional$15,115 for these new discipleship and serving opportunities. This helps in three key areas; funds summer plans, increases our abilities for existing daily and weekly rhythms, and provides for the personal financial needs of LXI staff. We believe this is the financial help needed to effectively reach this community of youth. There are needs for monthly supporters, one-time gifts, and  summer sponsorships ($500 sponsors one LXI youth for the summer!).

2. PARTNER

To reach this new level of support we need you! We want to share with your community who we are and the need we strive to meet!  We would love to come share our vision with the people you live your life with whether that’s your church, small group, or workplace, and partner alongside them to see a broken community restored. If you can connect us with your community in some way, please contact Kyle Hicks (423-956-3009) or Gretchen Allie (704-733-8284).

3. PRAY

This is going to take a miracle! Please remember us as you pray:

PRAY God would provide for His plans for us.

PRAY He would work wonders in the lives of the young people we pour into this summer. We don’t want to stop at being supported, we want to see hearts and lives transformed by Jesus!

4. ADVOCATE

Ultimately, you are our biggest advocates! We need you to be a voice for our youth who don’t have a voice by helping raise awareness of the need and how LXI is stepping in to make a difference in this community.

Have you ever been asked “what is LXI?” And you didn‘t know what to say? Below is an outline of the need that we see in this community, the solution that the Lord has laid on our hearts, and our ultimate hope for these youth.

Need

Passed over by the rest of the world, the at-risk youth of our city have experienced pain throughout their lives and often have no hope for a positive future.

Solution

LXI is the only inner-city youth ministry in Johnson City focused on long-term, day to day relationships with at-risk middle and high school youth. Every day we make a difference in lives of over 70+ underserved and under-resourced youth by building a safe community and consistent, loving relationships.

Goal

Our goal is that they see Jesus’ love for them is greater than anything they’ve done or has been done to them, and then step out of broken generational cycles as they are made new in Christ.

Action

You can ask your friends and co-workers to participate in this mission in one of three ways: 1. Pray  2. Volunteer 3. Financial Support
