MEET EMMAH!

This is the story of how God is revitalizing young people in Johnson City through LXI. Consider giving today to make our community a better place to grow up!

Revitalize: verb: to inspire something with new life and vitality. Read Emmah's story about what revitalization means to her below!

"God is always who he says he is. He promises good things and will provide it. It might not look how you thought but it's better."

Emmah is a sophomore in college. She has been around LXI for five years, as a student and now as a leader. Emmah is a good friend to others and she has a strong desire to inspire and lead. She is courageous, honest, and creative!

When asked about defining moments in Emmah's life, she gave three instances: "A big one was moving to the US from Kenya because it challenged me to think about life in a different way and see where I fit in a new community that was totally out of my comfort zone. Another is meeting Jesus when I was a sophomore in high school. I made my faith my own and was pushed to be totally dependent on who God says I am. Lastly, my transition from high school to college. I had to trust that God is who He says He is."

One of Emmah's hobbies is flower arrangement and she uses this analogy to describe how she thinks of revitalization. "To me, revitalization is like this flower I learned about recently. It is a big and beautiful budding flower that grows in volcanic ash -- that's the condition that they need to be beautiful. God can use what is totally broken to make it the total opposite. You would not expect flowers to grow in ashes!"

"2018 was a really hard year to trust him and the process that he had me in. Even though he had promised beauty, when I looked around, it was all ashes -- community, my education, family finances, everything. This year, God has been healing my false perceptions of him and teaching me that he is very kind. He never wants to lower us into the pit or ashes to just leave us there. He's doing something that requires us to go down so that he can bring us up and get the glory."

When asked about where Emmah still longs to see revitalization, she talked about her small group with LXI: "I want people to know that his path and his way is better. I want God to change our perspective of him and have us trust him to blow us away. I want my girls at LXI to know that God is different than who they think he is and his way is better!"
